Learn about everything tomato at the Smithsonian Resident Associates’ “From Garden to Table: Eccentric Tomatoes and Heirloom Seeds.” Heirloom-vegetable grower and author Amy Goldman will join Washington Post gardening editor Adrian Higgins for a conversation about the tomato’s origins, gardening tips, recipes, and the heirloom-seed-preservation movement. The three-course meal, $65 per person, begins with a reception featuring bacon-wrapped lobster as well as shrimp skewers in a pomegranate-honey sauce paired with a La Crema Monterey Pinot Noir. The first course, wild-cherry-glazed baby back ribs with macaroni and goat cheese, is paired with Erath Oregon Pinot Noir. Braised pork shank with ramp-and-mushroom risotto gets a Wild Horse Pinot Noir. The dinner ends with a selection of artisanal cheeses paired with a Sanford Santa Rita Hills Pinot Noir.
