Things to Do

Listen Up!

Every Tuesday, Listen Up! brings you songs of bands and performers coming through town in the next week. Listen up, then go check them out live.

Fresh from a lounge session with Internet radio station WOXY, the guys from Jukebox the Ghost—who are featured in the October issue of The Washingtonian as an act worth catching—stop by town this week for a show at the Black Cat. During its session, the band premiered a couple new tracks you can check out here.

Also in town this week is Phantom Planet. Jason Schwartzman’s former band brings its made-for-teen-TV-shows pop melodies (think The OC and Gossip Girl) to the 9:30 Club for a Thursday-night show alongside, um, Christian power-pop band the Rocket Summer.

The same night, electro-pop duo Ratatat plays a sold-out show at the Black Cat. Desperate for a ticket? Craigslist has a couple for sale—and while you’re at it, you might also want to look into buying tickets for the Fleet Foxes show. The five-piece Seattle band (currently on heavy rotation in our office) sold out the venue . . . again.

Rounding out this week’s playlist are Damien Jurado at the Rock and Roll Hotel and Theresa Andersson—whose quirky sound and memorable voice have earned her some serious buzz—at DC9.

This playlist is no longer available.
