Where & When: This Week in Nightlife

Check out Brazilian films, munch on cupcakes at a Washingtonian happy hour, and help out the Argonaut.

Monday: Beyond Ipanema
The Embassy of Brazil hosts the third installment of BrazilDocs at E Street Cinema, featuring documentary films that explore the country’s culture and history. This year’s festival, which runs through July 1, showcases six documentaries, including Beyond Ipanema, about the international resonance of Brazilian music such as samba and bossa nova. Also look for On the Stage, in which famous actresses re-enact stories from ordinary women. All films show once a day. Tickets ($5) can be purchased at the theater’s box office. Tuesday: Best of Washington Happy Hour
The Washingtonian hosts a happy hour with free food and drinks at Redwood in celebration of our July Best of Washington issue. Georgetown Cupcake, featured in the issue, is providing its famous sweets, and Urban Chic is hosting a shopping party. 6 to 8. To RSVP click here.

Wednesday: Argonaut Fundraiser
The Rock & Roll Hotel hosts a happy hour to benefit the nearby restaurant the Argonaut, which suffered a fire last week. Tickets are $20 and include free cocktails. All proceeds benefit the Argonaut and its employees. The event runs from 5 to 11.

Thursday: Phillips After 5
Yasmina Reza’s play Art, which examines different perspectives on what constitutes art, is at the Phillips Collection as part of its popular after-hours event held the first Thursday of every month from 5 to 8:30. Advanced reservations are now accepted. Click here for more information.
