El Teatro de Danza Contemporanea de El Salvador is hosting the first Latin American dance festival in Washington. “Unspoken Words—Dance Latin America” features styles from Cuba, Mexico, El Salvador, and other countries. It’s hard to separate the country from the headlines, but the Embassy Series kicks off tonight with “Music of Iraq: Safaafir.” The highly regarded group Safaafir performs in the Maqam style, drawn from the musical cultures of Bedouins, Kurds, Turks, and other Iraqi ethnic groups. The event is at the Iraqi Cultural Center (1630 Connecticut Ave., NW) at 7:30. Tickets ($75) are available here.
