The Rhythm Road series, a collaboration between the State Department and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York, presents two free concerts Thursday. At 6, Paul Beaudry & Pathways, a lively jazz-and-blues quartet, is performing. At 7:15, the Turning Pointe, a modern-gospel group from Atlanta, will take the stage. FotoWeek DC kicks off today, and one of the main attractions is thought-provoking photos projected onto DC buildings. The team of artists and curators behind the project are giving a talk to discuss their selections. 2:30 at the Corcoran Gallery. Free; pre-register here.
The Cold War is over, but this Saturday, East German automobiles are making a comeback at the International Spy Museum’s Fourth Annual Parade of Trabants. The cars, which have numerous design and safety flaws, are regarded as a symbol of the fall of Communism. There’ll also be German music and a chance to win a ride in a Trabant. 10 to 4; free.
The garage sale gets a makeover at Positive Force DC’s Punk Rock Flea Market Saturday. Held at St. Stephen’s Church in DC’s Mount Pleasant, the event includes live music from Imperial China, Tereu Tereu, and True Womanhood, as well as clothes, books, records, and other goodies for sale. $3 donation suggested. 12:30.
For your weekly dose of dancing, head to U Street Music Hall Saturday when co-owner Tittsworth takes the stage. The DC native has played at the 40,000-person Good Vibrations Festival and will be taking his show to Asia. He’s appearing with Harvard Bass and DJ Obeyah. 10 PM; buy tickets ($10) at the door.
Busboys and Poets’ A.C.T.O.R series, held on the first Sunday of the month, focuses on issues of race and aims to inspire participants toward action. 4 to 6; free.
