Where & When: What to Do Tonight

A dance party, a big-band concert, and a weird documentary

Have a not-so-silent night with the Baltimore Bass Connection at the group’s Christmas party. Spank Rock, Devlin and Darko, and more will be at U Street Music Hall at 9. Get tickets ($10) here or at the door ($15).

Artist and filmmaker Matthew Barney traveled to Japan, made use of 45,000 pounds of petroleum jelly and a whaling vessel, and had it all filmed. His piece, “Drawing Restraint 9,” is a narrative sculpture that tells the story of two land mammals that turn into whales. Catch a screening of a documentary about the project at Artisphere at 8. Tickets are $6 at the door.

The Army Blues, the premier jazz ensemble of the United States Army Band, is presenting Stan Keaton Christmas. This holiday tribute to the big-band legend will be performed at the Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage. 6 PM; free.
