McDermott Will & Emery Promotes Paul Thompson to Co-Lead DC Office: Power Circuit

McDermott Will & Emery has a new leader in its Washington office. Partner Paul Thompson has replaced David Rogers as co-partner-in-charge in DC. Thompson will co-head the office with existing co-partner-in-charge Bobby Burchfield. Thompson says he expects to keep up his white-collar defense practice in addition to his new managing duties. “Lesson one of McDermott is you’re required to maintain an active practice even as a managing partner,” he says. Rogers will continue to lead the firm’s employee benefits, compensation, labor and employment practice.

McDermott also welcomed Jeffrey Brennan as a partner in its antitrust and competition practice. Brennan joined from Dechert.

Small plaintiffs’ litigation firm Klores Perry Mitchell announced last week that former DC Mayor Adrian Fenty has joined as special counsel. Among other areas, the firm specializes in medical malpractice lawsuits.

International law firm Allen& Overy has opened a Washington office, adding three DC partners— Barbara Stettner, Chris Salter, and Charles Borden—from O’Melveny & Myers. David Slade will relocate from the firm’s New York office to become managing partner in Washington. The firm expects several other New York-based attorneys to move to DC as well.

General counsel of the US Department of Education Charles Rose has returned to the private sector as a partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath, where he will split his time between the Chicago and DC offices. He belongs to the firm’s government and regulatory affairs practice.

Morgan, Lewis & Bockius welcomed partner Matthew Elkin from Weil, Gotshal & Manges. Elkin is a member of the tax practice.

Morrison & Foerster has also added to its tax group. Philip Tatarowicz has joined the firm from Ernst & Young as of counsel in the state and local tax practice.

ZwillGen, a boutique technology law firm founded last year by two former Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal partners, has brought on Randy Sabett, formerly the co-chair of the internet and data protection practice at SNR Denton—the firm previously known as Sonnenschein, Nath & Rosenthal.

Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton has added partner Julie Domike and counsel Alec Zacaroli to its environmental group. They joined from Wallace King Domike & Reiskin.

Thomas Auchterlonie also joined the firm as counsel in the intellectual property department. Auchterlonie was previously director of the Fujitsu Patent Center, Fujitsu Management Services Of America, Inc.
