HAPPY HOUR:
Overworked and overheated Washingtonians can find refuge every Monday this month at the Kennedy Center’s Happy Hour Series. Cool off with drink specials from 5:30 to 8 PM, and then stick around for a free performance by the Debo Band. The Boston-based group infuses modern funk with traditional Ethiopian sounds. You can sample some of their tracks here. Happy hour specials include $4 wine, $2.50 beer, specialty cocktails starting at $7, and $3.50 sandwiches. Music begins at 6 PM.

Tuesday, August 9
FOOD: 701 Restaurant is hosting a seven-course Pork and Riesling Wine Dinner tonight. Prepared by Executive Chef Ed Witt, each dish will be paired with an award-winning riesling. The spread includes whipped lardo with grilled peach, shoulder steak, shredded pork ravioli, lime gelato, and more. Tickets ($85) can be reserved by calling 701 at 202-393-0242. 7 PM.

Wednesday, August 10
MUSIC:
The B-52s are headlining the National Zoo’s first ever Rock ’n’ Roar fundraiser. Known for their smash hit “Love Shack,” the group has sold more than 20 million albums. And you’ll be rockin’ out to a good cause—all proceeds will support animal care, conservation, and sustainability programs at the Zoo. The concert will be held outside so attendees are encouraged to bring blankets and low-seated lawn chairs. Tickets ($50 members, $65 non-members) can be purchased at the event Web site. Doors open at 6 PM, the performance begins at 7 PM.

Thursday, August 11
THEATER: Broadway fanatics won’t want to miss opening night of Guys and Dolls at Wolf Trap. Set in Depression-era New York City, the Tony Award-winning musical follows a group of small-time gamblers and their ladies. Tickets ($20 to $80) can be purchased at the event Web site. 8 PM.
