THEATER:
Don’t miss opening night of A Christmas Carol: A Ghost Story of Christmas at Olney Theatre. The adaptation of Charles Dickens’s classic novella stars Washington native Paul Morella. The show runs through January 1. Tickets ($26) can be purchased through the theater’s Web site. 7:30 PM.

Hairspray is also enjoying a revival at Signature Theatre. Directed by Eric Schaeffer, the Tony Award–winning musical follows a high school girl’s dance-driven transformation from loser to local celebrity. The show runs through January 29. “Signature artistic director Eric Schaeffer is a master of the musical and has created a fast-paced, high-stepping production with lots of style,” says lifestyle editor Leslie Milk. Read the full review here. Tickets ($62 to $82) can be purchased through Ticketmaster. 7:30 PM.

PARTY: Grab some friends and head to DAR Constitution Hall for an evening of shopping, pampering, and drinks. During Shecky’s Girls Night Out, guests can meet emerging jewelry designers, sip specialty cocktails, experiment with the latest beauty trends, and more. Best of all, you’ll receive a gift bag overflowing with swag from brands like Aveeno, Goody, and the Body Shop. Tickets ($10 to $30) can be purchased through the event’s Web site. 5 to 10 PM. If you can’t make it tonight, the event repeats tomorrow, December 15.

MUSIC: McLean native Chelsea Lee is performing at Jammin’ Java tonight. “Her lyrics are youthful, wistful even, avoiding those cheerleader/bleacher references (à la Taylor Swift) that really just make most of us feel old,” says the Washington Post. Lee will be joined by Caroline County. Tickets can be purchased online for $10 or at the door for $13. 7:30 PM.
