The owners of Mind the Mat studio are so excited for the opening of their second location in Clarendon that they’re spreading the joy by offering customers free yoga and Pilates classes all next week.

Mind the Mat has been in Alexandria’s Del Ray for three years, but co-owner Sara VanderGoot says Arlington was the perfect place to open a second studio. “It’s so fascinating, with its own vibe and feel,” she says. “It was really important to us to feel out who needed a studio like us right now.”

The 1,200-square-foot studio has green-yellow walls and feels bright and welcoming. Just like its Alexandria location, this studio is just one room, which allows Mind the Mat to keep “maintain its intimate feel,” says co-owner Elizabeth Polis. “People can come early and chat with other students, and they’re welcome to stay late, too.”

So far, the Mind the Mat team consists of six instructors, at least half of whom are certified physical therapists. The studio is also looking to hire more instructors to join their team.

Classes offered include flow yoga, Pilates boot camp, Budokon (a fusion of yoga and martial arts), prenatal yoga, and yoga for kids. For a schedule of all the free classes offered this Monday through Sunday, click here. Yoga mats will be provided for students free of charge.

Mind the Mat is located at 3300 B Fairfax Drive, Arlington. Its Del Ray location is at 2214 Mount Vernon Avenue, Alexandria. Call 703-683-2228 for more information.
