45 DC Bikes and Hikes: Burke Lake and Lake Accotink

Burke Lake and Lake Accotink

Distance: 4.7-mile loop and 3.8-mile loop, respectively.

Fairfax County offers 320 miles of biking and jogging trails for all skill levels; the paths around Lake Accotink in Springfield and Burke Lake in Fairfax Station offer particularly good rides for little kids. Bordering the bodies of water for which the parks are named, the two dirt trails roll through the woods without steep hills. Resting spots are scattered along both trails, and the parks offer snack bars and activities for after the ride. At Burke Lake, you’ll find fishing, golf, volleyball, and a train for little ones, while Accotink offers mini-golf, a carousel, and canoes and paddleboats. If you need to rent a bike, Lake Accotink can take care of that. For more, see the Fairfax County parks website.
