My husband and I went to Brasserie Beck for our 5 year wedding anniversary. I thought that the tables were a bit too close together. It makes it rather uncomfortable to have an intimate dinner. The service was mostly good; however, on several occasions, we found ourselves looking around for our server when we needed something. The bread basket was enticingly plentiful and it was deliciously warm, perfectly crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. I was also very pleased by the charcuterie plate with a side of the "Belgium frites". We enjoyed the dipping sauces. I tried the the raised rabbit with a sauce of its own juices fortified with kriek (cherry) beer and I ordered the trout. The portions were plentiful. We will return!
Brasserie Beck is a welcome addition to the Washington dining scene. It has a lively atmosphere, is filled with beautiful people, and has half decent food. If you like mussels, you'll be pleased with the variety of preparations they offer and the ginormous portion size. Also, the french bread was delicious. My husband commented to our server that it was the best bread he had ever eaten, and when the server returned with the check, he had packed an entire extra loaf in a to-go container. Great service!
