being a north arlingtonian from the glebe-lee area there are not that many places to go for a bite, drink, or to watch the game. so this place can be anything and still do well.
But no - Thirsty bernie is top-dog sports bar. Food is fantastic, beer is great. Yet it has that local feel and the staff is always nice. Good for family during the day, and for the game at nite and weekends. I recommend their spicy fries, the hot pastrami sandwich for lunch and the hanger stake for dinner. Wash that down with a Heffe and you are a happy guy (gal) .
I am really grateful this bar opened so close to us. The owner obviously has a great taste for food and drinks and the design is thought out great, The space is small but utilized very efficiently. Seating inside and outside, multiple displays you can see from any where to follow the game, the great food and drinks are a nice distraction from the game. Staff is super friendly and service has always been set at a hight.
Try the european beer selection they have you can order a sampler of 6 great beers.
This is my favorite sports bar in the area! The food, service and beer selection is remarkable. I have also been there for lunch and its really nice and quiet. Every night there is a different special and the game is always on. :]
When I first walked into Thirsty Bernie's it looked a bit small for a sports bar, but when I got a taste of the excellent food and the great selection of fine European bears, my taste buds went to Heaven and back. This sports bar gets pretty crowded at night, but its all worth it. :]
I must say this was the worst service I have ever received anywhere. A lady that worked there who claimed it was her restaurant actually kicked a guy out of the place for asking for an orange with his beer. The same lady was very rude to the people at my table and berated my friends for not finding French fries on the menu. There is no way this lady (I use the term loosely) could been the owner because people just dont treat their guest like that. The food was mediocre, the drinks were good but the service was very rude and sub-par.
The beer is great, and the food isnt so bad, but the service is terrible. On a UFC game night (Saturday, July 12th), I waited almost 15 minutes before the bartender go around to getting me a drink, and then he had the audacity of saying to me, You do realize that we live on tips, right? Since service had been so slow, I gave him a small tip. After that, he refused to serve me at all the rest of the night, and he told the waiters not to serve me either. The bar was not as crowded as you might think; the bartender was just lazy with a bad attitude. Since the night was winding down anyway, I left without making a fuss, but I would not recommend this place to anyone.
