Where & When: What to Do This Weekend
Comments () | Published August 12, 2009
Sunday, August 16: Café Atlántico winds down its rum weekend celebration with a four-course dinner. Join the Ministry of Rum’s Ed Hamilton for island- and rum-inspired dishes from chef Terri Cutrino. The meal will be paired with such cocktails as the Navy Grog and rum punch, and a selection of sipping rums will accompany dessert. The dinner, $75 per person (tax and tip not included), begins at 6:30. Call 202-393-0812 for reservations.

Former Top Chef contestant Spike Mendelsohn’s series of afternoon cookouts at the Capitol Skyline Hotel have been so popular that the events will now include movies in the evenings. This Sunday, it’s Anchorman. The movies will start around 8 PM, but the doors to the daylong event open at noon. If you get in before 4, the $10 cover price includes a burger.

Did you know that Washington’s first-ever Beer Week kicks off today? Exciting, especially because Washington is really coming into its own as a beer town. Loads of domestic and international breweries will be serving their goods at bars and restaurants all over the area as well as hosting special events. To kick the week off, head tonight to the Rock & Roll Hotel, where $20 will get you ten four-ounce sample pours of craft beers plus live music. 2 to 8 PM.
