Thursday, April 9: Fan of music? Fan of photography? Fan of both? Either way, you’ll want to head to Dahlak (1771 U St., NW; 202-332-2110) tonight for the opening of a new exhibit of music photography. “I’m With the Band” features the concert photography of three local and talented photogs: Kyle Gustafson, Martin Locraft, and Nestor Diaz. There will be a DJ as well as drink specials. 6 PM; suggested $5 donation.

Did you know about the neat Rhythm Road project by the State Department? It sends American musicians to play for foreign audiences (and, one hopes, cultivate good relations on the way). The next two groups to head out are the Hoppin’ John String Band (Appalachian folk) the Ryan Cohan Quartet (bluesy jazz), and before they leave, they’re holding a free concert at the National Geographic Society; 6 PM.

Coprodeli USA is hosting Cocina de Coprodeli this evening at the Josephine Butler Center. It’s a fundraiser for those affected by the earthquake that devastated the Ica region of Peru in 2007. Chef Manuel Flores of Ceiba will be on hand, appetizers and pisco sours will be doled out, and there’ll be flamenco dancing, live music, and more. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. If you were at Artini a couple of weeks ago, you know the winning concoction was the delicious Tortoise and the Bare by bartender Erik Holzherr of Wisdom. Friday, April 10: We can’t help but be a little sad that the National Cherry Blossom Festival winds up this weekend. But we’re glad that we can close it out with Cherry Blast, a fun multimedia event featuring music, art, videos, food by On the Fly, and more at a “raw” warehouse space in Southeast DC (2020 Shannon Pl., SE). Starting at 8:30 PM, free shuttles will run from the corner of 20th Street and Massachusetts Avenue, Northwest; $10. Get more details here.

Jonathan Goldstein, a contributing editor for the public-radio show This American Life, will read from Ladies and Gentleman, the Bible! at Politics and Prose at 7. Goldstein’s book is a humorous reimagining of Old Testament heroes that aims to show the true motivations behind their actions.

Saturday, April 11: The Cherry Blossom Festival concludes each year with a fireworks show, which this year takes place at 8:30 PM. The fireworks will launch from the Washington Channel, so go to East Potomac Park or the Southwest Waterfront promenade for the best viewing.

Did you miss the Goddard Space Flight Center’s World Space Party celebrating Russian cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin’s launch into space last Saturday? Worry not! Warehouse is here to the rescue with a second Yuri’s Night party that promises to celebrate not only space but science fiction. We also can’t really get over the promise that there’ll be a “cosmic burlesque” show. All righty, then! Expect live music, drink specials, a “celestial costume contest,” and lots more; 8 PM to 2 AM. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door; get them here.

Ready to spice up your Passover? Bring a box of matzo to Rosa Mexicano for a free Mexican Passover cooking demonstration and luncheon. The dishes include matzo-ball soup with roasted-jalapeño chicken broth, cilantro matzo balls, carrots, and black garbanzo beans; ancho chili stuffed with slow-cooked veal shoulder, tomatillos, and mole verde; and a pecan/date/bittersweet-chocolate flourless cake served with orange crème fraîche.
