Our judges combed through pages of entries and selected ten finalists in our pet-costume contest. Check out our favorites, then take a poll to vote for a winner.
We had a hunch that our readers are pet-crazy, and turns out we were right. After receiving nearly 70 photos of pets in costume—everything from bumblebee bunnies to superhero dogs—we’ve selected the finalists in our contest.
Check out the gallery above (or click here to see it in a new window), then come back here to vote for your favorite. The four photos with the most votes by noon on Friday, October 30, will be declared the winners.
In addition to being published in the pets’ section of The Washingtonian’s December issue, our top four vote-getters will receive the following prizes, compliments of some fabulous sponsors:
First place: A gift certificate good for one month of free dog daycare or two full grooming packages, compliments of Your Dog’s Best Friends in Alexandria. Second place: A $100 gift certificate to The Big Bad Woof in DC. Third place: A $50 gift certificate to Whole Pet Central (locations in Rockville and Ashburn). Fourth place: A $25 gift certificate to Whole Pet Central.
Please remember that it’s only one vote per person, so play fair. If we notice voting irregularities for any photo, we reserve the right to disqualify it from the contest.

seriously how can you not vote for the hulk pug? are you crazy? they painted their dog (thats named blue) green!!! i can barely get the harness around my dog let alone paint him. most creative costume yet!

Please vote for "The Incredible Blue" He loves getting "dressed up" The green spray food coloring didn’t bother him at all. He prances about like he is sooo proud. The "hair" came from a toy
stuffed horse tail. Gwen and Eric just cut the end off and put elastic to hold it on!

Store-bought costumes involve zero creativity. I think "The Incredible Blue" should win for two reasons: One, it’s very creative. Two, they dyed the dog green, for goodness sakes - can you imagine the wrestling that took? Can you imaging how much green food coloring ended up all over the owners/bathroom/house? For that alone, they deserve to win!
