Thursday, July 5: Things are sure to be slower around town this weekend, so if you’re in the area, why not take advantage of the lighter crowds by taking in a play? Check out our section of theater reviews, including our critics’ thoughts on Dead Man’s Cell Phone, The Witches of Eastwick, and more.
Friday, July 6: The AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring (8633 Colesville Rd.; 301-495-6720) is paying tribute to some of the most influential movies of the ’80s with “Totally Awesome: Films of the 1980s,” a two-month retrospective of some of the popular movies that defined the time, from Valley Girl to Friday the 13th to Purple Rain. The series kicks off tonight at 9:15 with Fast Times at Ridgemont High. Tickets are $9.75.
Not getting out of town this weekend? Don’t feel too sad—you have the benefit of being around for the Muléh 3.1 Phillip Lim trunk show when plenty of other fashionistas will be gone. 6 to 8 pm; 1831 14th Street, NW. Free. For reservations, call 202-667-3440 or e-mail rsvp@muleh.com.
Saturday, July 7: If you like your Latin music with a touch of disco and an extra punch of funk, check out Los Amigos Invisibles at the 9:30 Club (815 V St., NW). They’ll have you grooving all night. $22; get your tickets here. 10 pm.
Sunday, July 8: It’s your last chance to check out the Smithsonian’s Folklife Festival on the Mall. If you haven’t been there yet, consult our guide on what to do, see, and eat.
Festa Italiana takes place today at Third and F streets, NW, from 11:30 am to 5:30 pm. The celebration of Italian culture focuses this year on the Emilia-Romagna region, with plenty of food, activities, raffles, and live music. Free.
