Luxury Homes: June 2006

Harry Belin, owner of Georgetown’s Evermay, gets $11 million for three mansions on the estate. Think-tank executive Elliot Gerson sells Beaux Arts home in Kalorama for $3.6 million.

In DC: Elliot Gerson sold a Beaux Arts mansion in Kalorama for $4.23 million. Gerson bought the house in November 2004 from interior designer Mary Drysdale for $3.6 million. The five-bedroom house boasts a roof deck, library, sculpture garden, and master-bedroom suite with two bathrooms. Gerson, who was an adviser to Senator Joseph Lieberman’s presidential campaign, has run several start-up companies. He is an executive vice president of the Aspen Institute, in charge of seminars and public programs.

Dr. Alan Guttmacher and his wife, Brigid, sold a six-bedroom, seven-bathroom Federal-style rowhouse near Dupont Circle for $1.97 million. The house has five fireplaces, embassy-size entertaining spaces, and a chef’s kitchen. Guttmacher is deputy director of the National Human Genome Research Institute at the NIH.

In Maryland: Senator Ron Wyden sold a four-bedroom Colonial on Avalon Court in Bethesda’s Woodacres neighborhood for $870,000. The house listed for $849,000. Wyden has served as a senator from Oregon since 1996.

In Virginia: Real-estate developer Gerald Halpin sold a three-bedroom Colonial on Farm Meadow Court in McLean’s Evans Farm neighborhood for $1.7 million. The house has a marble entryway, two-story foyer, library, three terraces, and a three-car garage. Halpin is president of West Group, a commercial real-estate firm in McLean.
