Luxury Homes: February 2006

Ambassador John Danilovich buys historic Georgetown villa for $3.2 million. Ex-MZM chief Mitchell Wade sells DC home for $3.5 million. C-Span president Brian Lamb sells Arlington townhome for $805,000.

In DC: Former ambassador John Danilovich, recently named head of the Millennium Challenge Corporation, bought a five-bedroom historic villa on Dumbarton Street in Georgetown for $3.2 million. The former home of journalistic legend Joseph Alsop, the house has a heated pool, five fireplaces, and a garden with a fountain. On the evening of his inauguration, John F. Kennedy made a late-night stop at the home after leaving his fifth inaugural ball. Danilovich served as ambassador to Brazil June 2004 to November '05.

In Virginia: Former senator Don Nickles and his wife, Linda, bought a five-bedroom, seven-bathroom Colonial in McLean's Garfield Park for $2.7 million. The home has a conservatory, media room, and gourmet kitchen with a wine refrigerator. Nickles, a Republican, served as an Oklahoma senator for 24 years. After retiring from the Senate in 2005, he founded the Nickles Group, a lobbying firm.

Telecommunications expert Clay T. Whitehead bought a five-bedroom Colonial on Harvey Road in McLean's Langley Farms neighborhood for nearly $2,075,000. The house, which listed for $2,150,000, has a heated pool. Whitehead served as director of telecommunications policy for President Nixon.

C-Span founder Brian Lamb sold a three-bedroom brick townhouse on Queen Street in Arlington's Forest Hills Common for $805,000. Lamb has served as C-Span's head since 1979.

Lawyer Richard Shadyac bought a four-bedroom brick home on McLean's Georgetown Ridge Court for nearly $2.9 million. The house has seven bathrooms and five fireplaces. Shadyac is a partner in the Falls Church office of Feldesman Tucker Leifer Fidell.

In Maryland: Lawyer Lawrence Ottinger sold a four-bedroom Colonial on Cummings Lane in Chevy Chase for $1.1 million. It has an eat-in country kitchen and wraparound deck. Ottinger is manager of Policy and Leadership Development at the Fannie Mae Foundation.

Lawyer Lawrence Lapidus sold a four-bedroom Colonial on Yuma Street in Cleveland Park for $975,000. The house has a sun porch with skylights and a wrap-around rear deck. Lapidus is a partner at Karp, Frosh, Lapidus, Wigodsky & Norwind, a civil-litigation firm.
