Memorial Service for Jack McCune

Published Thursday, May 17, 2007

The memorial service for Jack McCune at the National Cathedral on Wednesday, May 16, was a tribute to one of the best loved, most admired, and highly respected teachers that St. Albans School has had in its 100-year history.

The graciousness, wit, affection, and humor of the tributes were a reflection of the man, as was the intricate planning that went into the service. That the National Cathedral was full at mid-day on a Wednesday was testimony to the number of lives Jack McCune touched so deeply during his years as a teacher, assistant headmaster, and briefly headmaster in a troubled time for the school.

Officially, the service was “in celebration of and in thanksgiving for the  life of John F. McCune.” In every regard, the deeply moving event lived up to that description.
