Looking for the perfect pair of jeans? We asked two denim experts, Mauro Farinelli of the Denim Bar in Arlington and Tiffany Rice of Saks Fifth Avenue in Chevy Chase, for the skinny on the best jeans this fall. Best jeans for the office: Rice suggests straight-leg styles in darker washes, such as the Colette ($143) by 7 for All Mankind and Ava ($172) by Citizens of Humanity. Both, she says, look great with a white oxford or chunky sweater. Farinelli says the best work jeans are “ones that aren’t going to get you fired—clean, without holes.” He suggests Harlan ($198) by Earnest Sewn. Best jeans for women with a curvy figure: Both Rice and Farinelli like the Honey style ($145 to $158) by Joe’s Jeans. Farinelli says the contoured waistband does not gape. Rice also recommends Hollywood Hills ($169 to $179) by Paige Premium: “For a woman who has hips and a butt, they fit really well.” Kasil jeans ($165 to $200) and Low Pro ($174 to $200) by Serfontaine also fit a variety of figures. Best jeans for women over 35: Rice suggests both the Kelly ($145) and Ingrid ($145) by Citizens—both styles come without much distressing. Farinelli recommends jeans by Habitual ($172 to $190): “They have a higher rise and a genuinely good fit.” Best bang for your buck: Rice says Joe’s Jeans—about $150 and up—are “reasonably priced, really comfortable, and hold up well.” Farinelli likes jeans by Seven; the basic styles run about $130. “They’re one of the best-selling brands for a reason,” he says. “They fit well.” Hottest jeans for fall: “Of course, the skinny jean,” says Rice. Her favorites include the Roxy ($165 to $185) by Seven and Stilt ($148) by AG. Not ready for skinny jeans? A straight leg, such as the Billy ($172 to $216) by True Religion, is a happy medium between boot cut and skinny. Gray and black washes are also making a comeback. Forget last year’s embellished and embroidered jeans: This season is about a cleaner look.
