How would you describe your style?

Casual and comfortable. I have two young children—Griffin is three, and Sophie is four.

Where do you like to shop?

Bergdorf’s in New York. Saks Fifth Avenue and Saks Jandel in Washington. For funky clothes, I go to Intermix in Georgetown. When I see something, I know immediately if it’s for me.

What do you splurge on?

I love shoes—Manolos or flats, my “mommy shoes.”

What outfit always makes you feel terrific?

I love dresses. This season, dresses were loose and flowing—much to my husband’s dismay. But I feel less is more now. In my younger years, I wore low-cut dresses. Now I cover up more.

What was your worst fashion disaster?

Black tie can mean a lot of things in Washington. I showed up overdressed for an event that was black tie optional. I was wearing a long, colorful Missoni frock. The other women were wearing black, knee-length, conservative St. John suits. I hate invitations that are vague like that.

What’s the best fashion advice you’ve ever received?

Comfort is everything.
