The Breakers moved to the very top of our favorite resorts after our recent visit. Why? It wasn't just the grandeur of its iconic lobby or how we felt suspended over the Atlantic in our spacious Premium Full Oceanfront Room (Tip: #5140 in the South Tower is truly tops in this category); rather, it was the friendly, intuitive service that we enjoyed from literally every employee we met at the resort.

We also loved the newly redone pool area, which stretches seemingly for miles along The Breakers' premium oceanfront property. In fact, "poolside" takes on an entirely new meaning at The Breakers, whose beach bungalows (available for daytime rental) are private, spacious quarters that include a living room, private bathroom, Wi-Fi service, LCD TVs, a wet bar and refrigerator. We also loved the patios from which we could watch the world go by. (Hint: If you're the type—and we know you are—who must "see and be seen" from the most prestigious bungalow at the resort, you'll want unit #30, as it has an adjacent private lawn. If that's taken, ask for #16.

Want to break the bank? Splurge on the Imperial, the Royal Poinciana or Premium Oceanfront Suites; they  also include the services of a personal concierge.

The top rooms and amenities at The Breakers book up quickly, so be sure to reserve a year out to obtain your preferred accommodations. Palm Beach also fills up for the Cavallino Classic Ferrari Show, the very upscale auto event which typically takes place in January.

At the spa, opt for the "Personal Retreat," that's a customized massage delivered by a master therapist. Treatments can be booked for any time frame between 50 and 120 minutes.

The Breakers is briefly mentioned in Wendy Wasserstein's novel "Elements of Style". Recommend it to those clients who would enjoy a satiric look at New York's "upper-class" crowd.
