Lackawanna Bed & Breakfast

Down-home service and peace and quiet are the draws of this Front Royal bed and breakfast.

Sixty miles west of Washington, DC, just off Interstate 66, Philip and Sandra Charles deliver down-home service at Lackawanna Bed & Breakfast in Front Royal, Virginia. If you're looking for vigorous activity, this isn’t the place (canoeing is available, but the cobwebs hanging from the stern signaled little use). Wistful relaxation is the tune at this 1869 Italianate-style house, which boasts three rooms, perfect for couples. Evenings are spent sipping on the Charles’ array of wines (all included in the rate) outside on the front porch with the din of crickets the only audio. Make sure and stick around for breakfast, when an apron–clad Philip serves up fluffy pancakes and made-to-order eggs. In the afternoon, check out the local—and plentiful—vineyards, or take a drive through Shenandoah National Park.
