Dream Weekends: Inn at Little Washington

A gourmet getaway.

Washington, Virginia

Is it worth it? That's what everyone asks.

The Inn at Little Washington is one of the country's best restaurants. Dinner, no question, is worth every penny.

Fresh seafood, succulent meats, decadent desserts--it all makes for a memorable meal.

Should you also book a room? Overnight guests can take afternoon tea in a lush garden or plush living room, sleep under buttery sheets, and fully experience the vaunted service. (Five valets might meet your car.)

It's convenient to stay if you're dining here, although the nice Foster-Harris House and Middleton Inn are a short walk away--and less than half the price on Saturday.

Bottom line: For a special occasion, this is one of the region's most elegant inns. Save money--perhaps for another visit--and stay midweek.

Inn at Little Washington, 540-675-3800; theinnatlittlewashington.com. Rooms start at $370 for two midweek, $615 on Saturday. Rates include continental breakfast; full breakfast is extra. Dinner is $128 to $168 a person, depending on day of the week.
