Antieta Overlook Farm, Keedysville, Maryland

A place with a mountain view.

Keedysville, Maryland

In 1862, thousands of men fought over the area that's now Antietam Overlook Farm. You can see why. The farmhouse sits high on 95 acres with a view of four states.

The farmhouse is all warm pine inside. The best room is the Overlook, a second-floor suite with views on three sides, including from its fireplace, hot tub, and sun deck. Four of the five rooms have a large soaking tub and a screened porch.

This is a cozy, rustic place with all the amenities, including a common room with a stone fireplace and up-close views of deer, foxes, wild turkeys, and birds. Breakfast is ample; among the favorites are baked pears, frittatas, home fries with maple bacon, and waffles with coffee ice cream. Hiking, rafting, and antiquing are nearby.

Bottom line: Not precious, not too country, it's like staying at the cabin of a well-off friend--complete with grand views.

Antietam Overlook Farm, 800-878-4241; antietamoverlook.com; double rooms $135 to $225, including full breakfast.
