Dream Weekends: Stonewall Resort

Good deals, low rates, lots of fun.

Stonewall Resort is for anyone who loves to boat, fish, golf, hike, bike, swim, spa, or just escape the city. Best of all, the price is right--and you won't be sacrificing comfort or beauty.

Stonewall Lodge, fashioned after 1920s Adirondack-style retreats, features soaring ceilings with wooden beams, large windows overlooking a lake, a stone fireplace, and overstuffed furniture. You can stay in the lodge, a lakeside cottage, or a houseboat.

The centerpiece of the resort is Stonewall Lake, with its 82 miles of shoreline and secluded coves. Rent a boat or cruise on the 100-passenger Little Sorrel.

The golf course, an Arnold Palmer design, rises from the shore and into the hills surrounding the resort. A new clubhouse offers great views, as do all the restaurants.

Even the pools offer lake views. And an outdoor fire pit for toasting marshmallows and stargazing will remind you of camping.

Bottom line: Great value, great activities--including boating, a spa, and golf--in a classic lake resort.

Stonewall Resort, 888-278-8150; stonewallresort.com. Summer rates begin at $119 a night for two.
