Ellen Ryan

Managing editor Ellen Ryan specializes in people stories, health, and travel. Her work has also appeared in AARP, Good Housekeeping, Outside, the Washington Post, Baltimore, Vegetarian Times, Newsday, Destinations, and many more.

Ms. Ryan came to Washington after graduating from the University of Virginia with a double major in government and sociology. She worked at Washington Woman, the American Psychological Association, and CASE Currents before starting at The Washingtonian in July 1996.

Her how-to book, Innkeeping Unlimited: Practical, Low-Cost Ways to Improve Your B&B and Win Repeat Business, has been well reviewed around the United States and Canada. Ms. Ryan teaches travel writing at Georgetown University and Montgomery College.
