Todd Kliman

Todd is the Dining Editor of The Washingtonian.
He was previously the food columnist for The Washington City Paper, where he won a prestigious James Beard Award in 2005 for the country's best newspaper column.

His writing has appeared in The New Yorker, Harper's, National Geographic Traveler, and The Washington Post Magazine, among others, and spans the gamut of subjects from punk rock to corporate thuggery, from media barrons to young gang members. He has gone undercover as a high school student for an article about teenagers, interviewed Al Gore and John Barth, smoked clove cigarettes and drunk beers with Martin Amis, hung out in the Chicago Bulls locker room with a young Michael Jordan, spent a week out west with rodeo clowns and another one in the desert at Cal Ripken's fantasy camp. He has also written many book reviews and essays, many of which have appeared in The Washington Post Book World and The St. Petersburg Times.

Kliman also taught English and literature for 10 years at American University and Howard University, twice being selected to Who's Who Among America's Teachers. At Howard, he was the editorial advisor to Chris Rock's controversial humor magazine, The Illtop Journal, modeled after the Harvard Lampoon and designed to give young African Americans a forum to break into comedy writing.
