Listen Up! Money Edition
This week, Listen Up!, our music column, (finally) takes a look at newspaper headlines and—oh, crap—we’re in the midst of a recession! How to cope with our economic woes? Make a playlist about the one thing we wish we had more of: money. Tell us what you think of the playlist and leave suggestions in the comments.

We stop reading the newspapers and watching television for a few weeks (or months, maybe) and next thing we know, the auto industry is on the brink of catastrophe, home foreclosures are on the rise, the credit market is frozen, and it turns out the world is going to end in 2012? What gives?
Yes, times are rough. But imminent apocalypse aside, we can take some comfort in the fact that steps are being taken to remedy (or at least improve) the situation. Change is coming, remember? We’ve just got to remain hopeful. It’s in that spirit that we’ve compiled a list of songs about money, from classics like the Beatles’ “Can’t Buy Me Love” and the Kinks’ “The Moneygoround” to modern tunes like “Bills, Bills, Bills” from Destiny’s Child and “Rich Girl” by Gwen Stefani. Did we leave out your favorite tune? Tell us in the comments, and we’ll add your suggestions throughout the day.
And if your spirit starts to falter, keep in mind, dear reader, that there are things you can get for free. To paraphrase J. Lo (that shining beacon of frugality and modesty), love don’t cost a thing. Right?
