Breaking News: PIC Unveils Inauguration Theme and Schedule of Events

By Emily Leaman   Published Wednesday, December 10, 2008

"Renewing America's Promise"—that's the theme the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) has settled on for Barack Obama's January inauguration. According to a statement released today, the theme "underscores the President-elect and Vice President-elect's commitment to restoring opportunity and possibility for all and re-establishing America's standing as a beacon of hope around the world."

All of the official—read: PIC-sanctioned—events, scheduled between Sunday, January 18, and Wednesday, January 21, will highlight the theme. These events, which the newly-elected president and vice president will attend, include a welcome event on Sunday that's open to the public, a private luncheon in the Capitol's Statuary Hall on Inauguration Day, and a prayer service on Wednesday.

Details about the official events, including which balls the president will attend, will be released at a later date.
