Is Citronelle Really Going to Close?

Rumors have run rampant for months about Citronelle, the Georgetown restaurant that we ranked number one on this year’s 100 Best Restaurants list. Is it closing for renovations along with the Latham Hotel? Is it closing for good? Might chef/owner Michel Richard hightail it to New York?
Last night, a Citronelle source squashed the rumors. Although there were plans to make cosmetic changes to the dining room and its attached hotel, they were scrapped because of the lagging economy. Anticipating the work, both the restaurant and hotel had turned away reservation requests for the spring and told Georgetown University parents that they’d be closed for graduation weekend, which begins Friday, May 15.
