Marilyn Monroe’s 83rd Birthday
Published Monday, June 01, 2009
Today, Life published some never-before-seen pictures of Marilyn Monroe to commemorate what would have been the star’s 83rd birthday. The pictures were taken by Ed Clark in Los Angeles’s Griffith Park in 1950, when Monroe was 24.
Five years before these pictures were taken, Monroe, then Norma Jean Baker, posed completely bare for a series of photographs. These pictures—the first nude images known of Monroe—were eventually discovered by a Falls Church roofer in 1997. Read more about the star’s first nude photographs here. There is curiosity about any discovery where some public figures are concerned. Elvis Presley and Marilyn Monroe are two of them. And Marilyn performed at a grand birthday celebration for John Kennedy in New York. She played a conspicous role in the shift from the 1950s (President Eisenhower) to the 60s (JFK).
