Video: CVS Locked Condom Protests in Dupont Circle

By Jessica Sidman ,   Sophie Gilbert   Published Thursday, June 11, 2009

It's not every day you get condoms, loudspeakers and protest banners in Dupont Circle. Well, maybe it's not that unusual, but today was different: A group of community organizers, health care workers and safe-sex advocates met opposite the Dupont CVS to protest the pharmacy chain's practice of keeping condoms in locked cases in predominantly non-white neighborhoods. Check out the action in the video below.

Its not as if CVS is the only place to get condoms. If you are too embaressed/unwilling to ask someone to help you get a condom out of a locked case, go to any corner store and pick up a box there. Further, check your local health clinic for free condoms. This is another pathetic attempt by Change to Win to use well intentioned community groups to smear the image of CVS.

so what where they protesting? If I get it right, the protest was about CVS not allowing to be robbed of condoms? It would have been a story if CVS did not sell to minorities. But here in this case clearly: no story here. CVS locked up what is not for free but taken for free to often. The protest should have been: DO NOT STEAL ......

very simple

The dumb part is that the condoms were NOT locked up at the store.
