If you’re an ardent anti-wine snob or just a fan of pizza and beer, the Rogue Brewing Company’s beer dinner at Birreria Paradiso (3282 M St., NW) is the place to be tonight. The four-course dinner will feature pairings with six Rogue brews. The dinner (seatings at 6:30 and 9) is $65 per person. Call 202-337-4936 for more information.

Capitol Hill cocktail lounge Wisdom (1432 Pennsylvania Ave., SE) will hold a free tasting of Domain de Canton’s ginger liqueur. Take a break from the usual vodka tonic and choose from an assortment of specialty cocktails made with the liqueur all night. The tasting starts at 7:30. Call 202-543-2323 for more information.

Wednesday, June 17
What goes into providing meals for the homeless at Miriam’s Kitchen’s (2401 Virginia Ave., NW)? Take the soup kitchen’s monthly Taste Test Tour to find out. The afternoon event includes a rundown of the place’s unusually health-conscious food programs for the hungry, a walking tour of the dining room, and treats whipped up by Miriam’s pastry chefs. The tour runs from noon to 1, and reservations are required. Call 202-452-8926 or e-mail sara@miriamskitchen.org for a spot. New donors, potential volunteers, and interested community members are encouraged to attend.

Thursday, June 18

Upgrade your usual Coke-and-popcorn combo to wine and seasonal-food samples at the FreshFarm Markets’ Local Foods Movie Night. On the screen at Georgetown’s Letelier Theater (3251 Prospect St., NW) will be Sustainable Table: What’s on Your Plate? and Nora!, a short documentary on Nora Pouillon, owner of the first certified organic restaurant in the United States, DC’s Restaurant Nora. Doors open at 6:15, and the screenings begin at 7. A $20 ticket, covering both films and food, can be purchased here.

Friday, June 19
In the mood to cook but looking for a break from your regular recipes? Join chef Joel Olsen at L’Academie de Cuisine (5021 Wilson La., Bethesda) for a Scandinavian-themed session of Friday Night Fun & Food. The hands-on class will teach participants how to make Swedish meatballs; gravlax with mustard-dill sauce; poached cod with shrimp and asparagus; mashed potatoes with Jarlsberg and chives; and strawberry snow with Scandinavian sugar cookies. The class, which runs from 7 to 10, costs $75. Click here to make a reservation.

Saturday, June 20

Get a jump-start on Fourth of July fun with the Washington Wine Academy’s Fireworks Wine & Beer Tasting cruise, which offers views of the moonlit monuments and fireworks from the Alexandria Red Cross Waterfront Festival and samples of Virginia-made wines and an array of cheeses and crudités. The boat departs at 8, but guests should be at the Washington Marina (1300 Maine Ave., SW) by 7:45 (it returns at 11). For tickets ($85), click here.
