That being said, if I were voting for the menu and restaurant itself, not just the pizza, Rustico would kick Flippin’s butt. Great beer selection.

As delicious is Rustico is (my mouth waters when I think of it), I am more of a NY style pizza guy and I like simple toppings. So my vote was for flippin, although it was a very tough choice. Rustico definitely has more unique pies but Flippin’ has that great NY slice that I grew up with and will always love. Either way, I’m glad we have such a great choice in the Metro area.

Rustico is the best!!

Rustico, no doubt... best pie in town.

The Flippin’ Pizza is wonderful. My husband was concerned that they only had one size, 18". He thought we would have trouble eating it. But the two of us ate all but one piece and that was with having a salad on the side. The only compaint I would have is that they didn’t put enough green pepper and mushrooms on our pizza.

The white Pizza is the best. a must try.

I been working in Radio in DC for 12 years and I have never spoken about a Restaurant the way that I spoke about Rustico and its incredible Pizza; it realy makes Me say Mama Mia the Best of the Best.

Flippin in Reston is the best pizza south of the Mason Dixon line. Hands down!

Of course this is merely an opinion poll, and my opinion must lean toward the authentic NY Style that the Flippin’ Pizza really is. I’ve lived in NYC for 22 years and this brings me home.

Please, hands down Flippin, is so fresh and the kids love to see them Flipp the Pie.

When it comes to pizza, most of the things that people are talking about does not matter. It is all about how good the pizza is...Rustico makes the best pizza!!!! Doesn’t matter if you like it traditional or unique, the pizza is great.

...really- the best pizza i’ve found in a long while!!!

Have been to both and FLIPPIN PIZZA is by far the BEST ! Plus their NO SUGAR dough is fantastic!

Oh, thanks for the clarification jonathon. If the BEST is what we’re going for, then Rustico wins hands down! Cheers!

Rustico is a neighborhood restaurant that obviously focuses on local farm-fresh ingredients. Their pizzas are delicious and fun. They have my vote.

The contest is for the BEST pizza in DC, not the most unique to DC. It doesn’t matter where a place came from; it only matters if it is good and if there is a location in DC. I have been to Flippin Pizza many times and they are absolutely the best pizza in DC.

I’ve had both Flippin’ and Rustico and "hands down", Flippin wins overall. It is as close to being in NY City as possible for great pizza.

I agree with Joseph (kinda). As a visitor to this site (and potentially a visitor to DC), one would expect to find a list of places that are uniquely DC. While Flippin’ Pizza might be a restaurant in the DC metro area, it is part of a chain, and so it is difficult to call that "uniquely DC".
Posted by: Carrie, Aug 28, 2009 07:59:15 AM
I am not sure why California Flippin’ Pizza Kitchen is part of this contest. It is not a DC pizza place. It’s a California pizza place with a branch in DC. Not only that, but the idea that a local pizza place can compete with a national chain getting people all over the country to impose their choice on DC is absurd and illegitimate.

We haven’t been to Rustico YET, but Steve Mannino is TOP NOTCH...for DC folks, he was the brilliance behind Olives when it first came to DC, and he’s left his impression in many great cities...I’d be hard pressed to find a better chef, personality/energy! We’re blessed he’s back!
Posted by: j&j, Aug 28, 2009 07:09:04 AM
If you’re voting for Flippin’ Pizza then you haven’t had Steve Mannino’s pizza at Rustico. Do yourself a favor...go to Rustico, eat the pizza, and then come back and change your vote...I guarantee you’ll want to change your vote.

Lucky for me we just had Flippin’ for a business meeting last night. Yeah, I didn’t have to pay for it.
