• The premise of DC’s Funniest Fed Competition might sound like a joke in itself: Who’s the funniest federal employee in Washington? In place of the punchline, though, is this five-week drama that just gets funnier and funnier, with a field of 32 government-employed aspiring comedians ultimately winnowed down to one winner. This contest made its debut in 2007—that year’s winner worked at the Federal Aviation Administration—and, after a yearlong hiatus, has returned to its old digs at the Arlington Cinem ’N’ Drafthouse.

Round one has passed, but round two takes place tonight at 7:30, and round three is on Wednesday, September 30, also at 7:30. Admission is $10 for each show. The semifinals ($12 admission) will take place Wednesday, October 7, at 7:30, and the finals ($15) will be held Friday, October 23, at 8. Part of the proceeds will be donated to the Fisher House Foundation, which supports the families of Army veterans.

• Actor and comedian Tommy Davidson, who began his career on the cast of In Living Color and later starred in raunchy urban comedies such as Booty Call and Half Baked, will perform standup Thursday, September 24, through Saturday, September 27, at the DC Improv Comedy Club. Davidson’s impersonations run the gamut from Sylvester Stallone to Sammy Davis Jr. to—in the 2002 comedy Juwanna Man—a female basketball player. • Ranked the number-one American comedy of all time by the American Film Institute, 1959’s gender-bending Some Like It Hot stars Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon as a pair of Chicago musicians fleeing the Mob. Desperate to get out of the city, the men disguise themselves as women and join an all-girl band touring Florida—where Marilyn Monroe keeps things sultry as Sugar Kane, the band’s singer and ukulele player. Some Like It Hot is showing at the American City Diner (5532 Connecticut Ave., NW; 202-244-1949) on Thursday, September 24, at 8:30 . Admission is free. • Live from Long Island, it’s Jim Breuer—the comedian best known for his work on Saturday Night Live in the late ’90s, where he cracked jokes alongside personalities such as Will Ferrell, Molly Shannon, and Chris Kattan. Breuer co-starred with Tommy Davidson—also performing in Washington this week—in 1998’s Half Baked. His standup performances, many about the comedy of family life, also poke fun at personal vices—such as his popular “Alcohol” routine. Breuer will appear at the Sixth & I Historic Synagogue on Thursday, September 24, at 8; Comedy Central’s Vinnie Brand will be the opening act. Doors open at 7.
