October Photo-Contest Finalists

The votes are in, and the finalists for our contrast-themed photo contest have been selected. Read on to vote for your favorite.

Published Tuesday, October 20, 2009

Our contrast-themed photo contest fielded a good mix of entries—everything from portraits to landscapes to studio shots. Now that our judges have selected their five favorites, it’s time for you to choose a winner.

Go here to view the finalists' gallery, then take the poll at the bottom of this page to vote for your favorite. The photo with the most votes on Friday, October 30, at noon will be declared the winner and will run in the December issue of The Washingtonian.

Remember, it’s only one vote per person, so play fair. If we notice voting irregularities for any photo, we reserve the right to disqualify it from the contest.

Good luck to this month’s finalists, and happy voting!

There were lots more photos that our judges liked; check them out in the runners-up gallery. Go here to see all the past winners. And for details on how to enter next month's contest, check back November 1.

*To help keep this contest fair, we've elected to use an IP address-based poll. This means that if you are voting from an office or network setting, not everybody will be able to vote. We apologize for the inconvenience, but we hope you'll encourage coworkers to vote from their home computers.

Shyam Menon’s ‘Guard of Honor’ gets my vote because of its contemporariness. The frame captures spontaneity while delivering an important message:
In this day and age we rely on brute force to safeguard our ‘future’ while the ‘future’ personalized in this frame by the inquisitive little girl has other ideas.

The half and half is good in photography. But My vote goes to ’Guard of Honor’, ’cause is a spot and spontaneous.

My favorite is half and half by Emily Patton, it truly shows contrast in a very creative and artistic way!

I must say, the contrasting of black N white in "Half-N-Half" is Brilliant. And those eyes, simply stunning.

Emily Patton’s photo is definitely the best one! The contrast is so stark and there’s so much meaning behind the picture. Her eyes are so clear and emotional, too. I say "half-and-half" all the way!!
