Chew on This: What's the Best New Restaurant?

By Kate Nerenberg

There's been a flurry of new-restaurant openings in the last couple months—Masa 14, Bibiana, Kellari, Birch & Barley/ChurchKey, Againn, Souk, Masala Art, and more—and we're having trouble keeping track. Although restaurants always need awhile to settle in, we want to know which ones have impressed you right out of the gate. What's your favorite just-opened restaurant? Let us know in the comments!

Inox.
I went to Kora, Eventide, Potenza, Zentan, Spice-Xing, Masa 14, Blue Ridge, and Ping Pong Dim Sum.

Slightly Underwhelming but still yummy: Kora, Potenza, Eventide, Zentan
Just okay: Blue Ridge, Masa 14
Bad and never going again: Spice-Xing, Ping Pong Dim Sum

Inox was one of my most favorite meals (I went three times…) this whole year, maybe even out of the past few years! I went there twice for lunch and once for dinner on my 5-year anniversary and everything was delicious. Each visit just got better and better–Inox really listens to their diners and changes with their feedback.

Ate at Birch & Barley last week. The place was still jam-packed - even on a Thursday night. The atmosphere is fun and hip, and the beer selection was all it has been hyped to be. The menu looks great, and overall we had a great meal. There are still a couple kinks that need to be worked out as far as consistency with some of the dishes. They’ve had a strong start, and I daresay it could do real well.

Been Greek I feel I know Greek food well enough to make comments about Greek restaurants. I think the best thing that happen to our city is having Kellari opening in downtown DC.

Digging the ambiance at ChurchKey and had pretty good chipotle miso glazed black cod at Masa 14.

I haven’t been yet to the other named restaurants, but have tried Masala Art and thought it was wonderful.

I’d put in a strong vote for Eola on P St. NW just east of 20th. I went there with a small group of family members the other night, and we had a very nice time. The service was excellent from start to finish, and the food was divine. A couple of the members in our party got the rockfish, which was succulent indeed, and nicely framed by squach veloute as a starter, and peanut butter chocolate mousse as a dessert! Some of these options may not be offered because I understand they reshuffle the items on the menu quite regularly. In any event, Eola is definitely worth a try!

BIBIANA!!! the food is wonderful and i have always had wonderful service. a lovely young woman named katie took care of us this weekend, and we were beyond pleased with her. she went out of her way and had a bright bubbly personality. love the cocktail menu.

Kellari! I work three blocks from there and it has become my go to spot for lunch or a drink after work - the staff is awesome (especially considering they’ve not even been open for a full month), the food is just right and they’ve got a great variety, and they seriously encourage a neighborhood feel with shared plates on the bar and generous helpings. I’m completely hooked.
