It's Snowpocalypse time, and you know what that means: It's time for everybody to do what this Web site tells us. Since last night, we've been hearing tales of terror from grocery stores around the region. Our story: We spent 45 minutes in a packed Whole Foods line, only to learn that we really got off easy—the store started making customers wait for entry outside just after we left (for the glorious refuge of a bar across the street, where we could watch the madness).
In the comments, tell us your own grocery-store tales. Are the bread aisles empty? Did you see two shoppers fighting over the last carton of eggs? Was there uncontrollable sobbing in the dairy department? Send us photos, too, to candrews@washingtonian.com and we'll post them online.

There’s tons of grocery stories out there because that’s what we all do. People who work in grocery stores deal with a lot of strange situations and rude customers, grocery shopping isn’t what it seemed to be.
There’s a blog about grocery clerks...

Moscow circa 1980 w/o the food rationing cards mostly because we are such self entitled boors. One needs to be thoughtful to staff who work through the night and then have to put up with our childish whining and silly tantrums.

sugar = marathon baking sessions.
peppers = marathon chili/stew making sessions
This storm has brought out the home cooking memes. Even I (a noncook) plan to bake up a storm, at least until my eggs run out.
Whole Foods in downtown Silver Spring was a nightmare around Noon yesterday (Tues Feb 9). Employees were working their asses off, but the customers were nasty and horrific. I was pushed and shoved like I was front row at a Jonas Bros concert. Really people, is it worth losing your last shred of humanity to cut in line in front of others and pull things out of others carts? Damnn.

Even before the snow, I was planning on some canning this weekend. I needed about 2.5 pounds of anaheim peppers. Harris Teeter in Potomac Yard was out of all peppers except a few pathetic green bells Thursday night. Seriously?? Blizzard induced hot pepper carvings?? I would have gladly substituted another spicy green pepper but none were to be found!
I had to be in Vienna Friday morning and happily found my peppers at a well stocked (at least before 9 am) Magruder’s there.

Well, I walked away from my cart at the Shoppers at Seven Corners to get something, and someone stole the cart and all the food I had in it. Washingtonians, you will only be inside for two days. I proceeded to the milk section only to find a group of individuals staring at empty refrigerators. Who knows that they were so enthralled with, the magic milk fairy "The Rock" was not going to fly down with fresh milk. Smartly, abandoned all hope and went to Safeway early this morning before work to see everything being restocked with no lines or extra people.

Bottom line is all Americans cannot handle even the slightest bit of uncertainty...esp when forefathers braved the oceans to come he

The meat section was completely empty despite a few packets of chicken feet left at the Seven Corners Giant...unfortunately, I saw two ladies fighting over them! Seriously?
Ended up with 2 bottles of red, a piece of chocolate cake and a roll of toilet paper - I consider that set for the weekend!

I, for one, wasn’t surprised by the empty shelves at the Watergate Safeway. They constantly run dry even during ideal conditions!

No produce at Harris Teeter in Annandale (pic). Srsly, someone is riding out the storm with 200 green peppers? #snOMG http://twitpic.com/11ho62

OMFG!!!! I was totally at that Hairy Teets last night and it was soooo unbelievably crazy. All I could find was Ramen. This stinks! Im going to be snowed in for five days with nothing to eat but ramen and my bf cant even make it to visit me because of the snow

I was a Trader Joe’s in Foggy Bottom last night and although the line was absolutely ridiculous, I stood there for maybe 15min tops. Everyone was really respectful, relatively calm and the TJ’s employees were fast and efficient as always. It could have been worse.

Sad thing about this - that is the potato chip aisle?

The Potomac Yard Harris Teeter yesterday was well-stocked and moving quickly. I was in and out in 10 minutes. I recommend convenience stores frankly. They have more stock, shorter lines and aren’t gouging prices yet.

Well, duh, the Yes!organic market probably would be stocked and not crowded before a snow storm. Unless you can get beer, tositos, oreos, or any other junk food imaginable, people aren’t going to shop there before a snow storm!

I have served in our great United States Air Force for almost 21 years now. I was in uniform waiting in the long self-checkout line with only three items. A kind stranger came up to me and took me to where he was checking out. He wouldn’t take no for an answer and paid for my things. It was so sweet...his daughter is a Marine 2LT who just left for Afghanistan. I said you must be so proud of her...when I departed I should have told him that she must be so proud of her kind patriotic father!

Last night I got a few things at Yes!Organic market in Cleveland Park and they were well stocked and there was no line

Ah, the Pack Panic Mentality. I hit the Bethesda Safeway this morning around 8:30 and found well-stocked shelves and lines no longer than usual. Just had to pick up a few items (we’re not going to be snowed in that long, geesh) and I was in and out in 20 minutes. Glad I didn’t bother to try and cram myself into a grocery store last night.

Fairfax Wegmans had over 45 min wait to checkout with all registers open last night. Lines were all the way into the isles. There were no carrots, saw a heated discussion over a bruised red onion. The cilantro and jalapeños were gone, can anyone say Chili. Employees were keeping it all running really well though and people moving. All staff had a a smile on their faces and apologies for being out of product. Got to love Wegmans!!!

A few responses from our followers out in Twitter land...
@shippey: No pics, but the Shoppers at 7 Corners last night was pretty blasted, but the Grand Mart had full staff restocking at 9:30 PM
@ezraklein: Just ran by the 14th and P Whole Foods. The line in each aisle stretched back to the freezers. Insane.
@DChi606: My boss was at Whole Foods Gtown. Lines stretched all the way back to seafood and curving around. Would be min 1 hr wait.

Am I the only one who just bought a couple bottles of wine? I mean what else do you need. It’s not like we’re going to be holed up for days...Ridiculous...

I seemed to have narrowly missed a violent scuffle in the baking aisle at the Harris Teeter in Alexandria. All that was left of the sugar were a few broken open packages and sugar covering the floor. I can just envision people ripping the sacks out of other shoppers’ hands.
The entire spices display had been ransacked with stray bottles of sage, bay leaf and paprika rolling the aisles.
The burning question - What are these people doing this weekend that requires so much sugar?

I was on line at Shoppers in Alexandria for over an hour last night. The meat section was completely cleaned out and so was the milk and bread; still had a good amount of produce, though. The line was almost all the way to the back of the store.
