Get to Know the City with Walking Tours
By
Catherine Andrews
The Walkington, DC spring weekend gives you tours and history of DC—for free.
Looking to get to know your neighborhood a little bit better? Then you should hit up Cultural Tourism DC's WalkingTown weekend of free tours that's taking place April 21 and 22. The organization hosts more than 60 free and guided walking and biking tours throughout various neighborhoods in the city on those two days. Always wanted to know more about the musical heritage of U Street, or the monastery in Brookland? What about espionage in Georgetown, or Logan Circle, the "city's only unaltered Victorian residential district"? The tours aren't all neighborhood-based, either. There's plenty that are subject-specific, such as one that shows you the animal sculptures located throughout DC (by bike!) or a tour of sites in the city that have been used as locations in famous films. DC's a city steeped in fascinating neighborhood history, and these walking tours will help prove it. Plus, at the grand price of zero dollars, you can't afford to pass them up.
Email info@CulturalTourismDC.org or call 202-661-7581 for more information. Most of the tours don't require reservations, but you should certainly plan on showing up early, as the crowds will no doubt be out in force. Click here for the complete overview of all the tours that are being offered. And then get out there and discover the city!
