Listen Up! Love Songs Edition

This week, Listen Up!, our music column, celebrates love and Valentine’s Day with a playlist of romantic songs, both old and new. Got some suggestions? Let us know in the comments and we’ll add them to our playlist.

By Alejandro Salinas   Published Tuesday, February 10, 2009

As promised last week, today’s playlist is all about love—so if you’re not into the Hallmark Holiday or silly songs about kissing, snuggling, spooning, etc., we recommend you sit this one out and check out our anti-romantic playlist instead.

Now, when it comes to love and romance, we at After Hours tend to speak indie, so below you’ll find some songs from bands like Kings of Leon, Travis, the Stills and Modest Mouse. Also in the mix are oldies but goodies from Johnny Cash, the Cure and Paul McCartney, as well as some D’Angelo—because, as a wise friend points out, when it comes to love and sex, you can’t really do better than “Untitled (How Does it Feel?)”

Oh yeah, Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me” is in there, too. What can we say, Valentine’s Day brings out the doe-eyed fourteen-year-old girl in us.

Did we miss your favorite love song? Leave your suggestions in the comments and we’ll add them to the playlist.
