Sidewalk Style: Stylish Teens

Welcome to Sidewalk Style, our feature where we photograph stylish people on the street and ask them about their fashion tips and ideas. This week we ran into two stylish teens from a local high school. Sidewalk Style is written by Rachel Cothran of the local street-fashion photography blog ProjectBeltway.com.

David Thompson, 16, and Britteny Hartwell, 17
Students at DC’s Cardozo High School

What he’s wearing:
Vintage leather jacket, jeans from American Apparel, Hollister hoodie, Hot Topic scarf, Adidas sneakers, and fanny pack from a stand downtown. I asked David about the hat and he couldn’t remember where he’d gotten it, but Britteny said you can find them at Victoria’s Secret.

Where he likes to shop:
H&M, American Apparel, Hot Topic, Armani Exchange, and Up Against the Wall.

How he likes to dress:
“I like my clothes fitted. I like my jeans to fit tight, like skater boys wear.”

His post-high school plans:
“I want to be a veterinarian and model. Right now I model for Peaceoholics.”

What she’s wearing:
H&M jacket, American Eagle hoodie, pants from Target, and Adidas sneakers.

Where she likes to shop:
“The same places he does! And I like Alloy and Delia*s.”

How she likes to dress:
“Cute but comfortable.”

Her post-high-school plans:
“I want to be a legal assistant.”

Rachel says:
I love this look, especially for teenagers. It’s bright, youthful, and visually appealing. Bright sneakers are exploding in DC, and sneaker stores like Commonwealth in Adams Morgan, the U Street Corridor’s Palace5ive, and Kickballers in Georgetown are just a few of the stores supporting the habit. Companies are partnering with artists of every ilk to produce unique, limited-edition shoes, so it’s like owning a wearable piece of art.
