Celebrating 75 Years of the Right to Drink Beer
By
Alejandro Salinas
If you enjoy beer as much as we do, then surely you’re aware that today marks the 75th anniversary of the end of Prohibition—for beer, that is. Though the ban on other alcoholic beverages wasn’t repealed until December 5, 1933, beer once again became legal on April 7 of that year with the modification of the Volstead Act.
That’s your quick history-lesson recap. Now bring on the beer!
Rock Bottom Brewery has great specials at both of its locations: The Rock Bottom in Arlington (4238 Wilson Blvd.; 703-516-7688) will serve $2.50 beer pints and offer 25-cent chicken wings as its food special for the day. The Bethesda Rock Bottom (7900 Norfolk Ave.; 301-652-1311) will serve $2 Kolsch beers from 6 to 8. Starting at 11, Barley and Hops Grill & Microbrewery (5473 Urbana Pike, Frederick; 301-668-5555) will offer half-price appetizers and $2 pints of their draft beers. Then, from 8 to closing, prices for drafts go down to 33 cents! For more posts on nightlife, arts and events, and bars, click here.
