It’s that time of week again, folks. A round up of free events. And unlike last week, we’re actually going to post capital-F Free events. And the kicker? This time it’s all about art.
American University’s lovely Katzen Arts Center has, count ’em, four exhibits going on right now. The first made me beeline to a dictionary: “A Telluric Path: The Art of Nefeli Massia.” Telluric means “of or relating to the earth and its energies.” Word. The other three exhibits are “Joe Shannon: Realism Surrealism,” “Noche Crist: A Romanian Revelation,” and “Multiplicitocracy.” All are free (I swear) and run through July 27.
While above we have a veritable throw-up of media and styles, sometimes one needs some work grounded in the here and now. This Friday from 6 to 8 PM, Dupont Circle’s Studio Gallery kicks off “Stimulus,” The catch? “DC artists accept the challenge: over 100 artworks under $600.” Not a bad deal, right? What else would you do with that stimulus check?
Yes, we like it when art intersects with politics, however glibly. But film is usually the most accessible medium for this sort of crossroads. Still wearing a “Bartlett for President” shirt? Take a small dose of comfort next Monday with a screening of The Candidate—starring Robert Redford as the senatorial candidate you wish your state had—courtesy of none other than Screen on the Green. Lights, camera, action at the Mall (the one with the dome, not the Nieman Marcus) at dusk (8:30 to 9:30 PM). More>> After Hours Blog | Arts & Events | Happy Hour Finder | Calendar of Events
