Veteran CBS journalist Bob Schieffer recently released Bob Schieffer’s America—a 168-piece collection of his TV commentaries. Schieffer, who has covered everything from the White House to the State Department and Senate, will be at Politics and Prose tonight at 7.

For his memoir, The Night of the Gun, New York Times columnist David Carr uses videotaped interviews, records, and years of reporting to investigate, write, and fact-check the story of his addiction, cancer, and life as a parent. He’ll be at Olsson’s Books and Records on Wednesday at 7 PM.

The Smithsonian American Art Museum is screening One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest Wednesday at 6 on in the McEvoy Auditorium as part of its “American Classics: Page to Screen” film series. Based on Ken Kesey’s classic 1962 novel, the film succeeds in large part thanks to Jack Nicholson’s Oscar-winning performance as the charming miscreant McMurphy.

The Library of Congress series “Before the Beatles: The Early Days of British Rock and Roll” will show two films at the Mary Pickford Theater on Friday: Finders Keepers and Rhythm ’n’ Greens. The films, starting at 7, showcase some of the more underappreciated influences of rock music, including Cliff Richard and the Shadows.

The National Gallery of Art’s Jazz in the Garden series continues with jazz vibist, drummer, and Baltimore native Warren Wolf at 5 PM.

In the mood for a free Saturday matinee? The Freer and Sackler Galleries will screen Children Playing Gods at 2 PM in the Meyer Auditorium. The film explores the lives of Ramila child actors in Banaras who act out the epic tale of Rama. A gallery tour on the arts of the Indian subcontinent and the Himalayas will precede the film at 1:15.
