Monday, November 3
We’ve heard plenty about the two presidential candidates, but what about their wives? The Washington Post’s Liza Mundy aims to answer questions about Barack Obama’s other half with her book Michelle: A Biography. Mundy will be at Politics and Prose at 7 to discuss the book, which draws upon interviews with more than 100 people, including the potential first lady.
Tuesday, November 4
It’s Election Day—go vote! If you’ve already cast your ballot but still have politics on the brain, check out the political-cartoon collection at the National Postal Museum from 11 to 2. Or see our list of election-watching parties.
Wednesday, November 5
Like a little music with your lunch? The Corcoran’s Wednesday jazz series continues with Harry Appleman at 12:30 in the Frances and Armand Hammer Auditorium.
Thursday, November 6
Want to test your local sports knowledge? Washington Post sports reporter Leonard Shapiro and sports-talk personality Andy Pollin bring The Great Book of Washington DC Sports Lists to Georgetown’s Barnes & Noble at 7:30. Topics include the most lopsided trades, the most overrated athletes to come to DC, the single greatest play in DC history, and area teams’ most hated rivals.
Friday, November 7
The Sackler and Freer galleries present Adrift in Tokyo as part of their “Another Side of Japanese Cinema” film series at 7 in the Meyer Auditorium. The comedy follows a slacker college student and a debt collector as they walk across Tokyo.
Saturday, November 8
The National Gallery of Art is screening two films from the 1920s: The Salvation Hunters at 2 and Children of Divorce at 4. The first, directed by Josef von Sternberg, is an avant-garde feature about three drifters aboard a dredge; the second revolves around young lovers played by Clara Bow and Gary Cooper.
Sunday, November 9
UPDATE: This program is open to the public, but the wine and cheese actually cost a small fee. Free wine and cheese? The Renwick Gallery is celebrating Italian cultural traditions with an afternoon of music and wine and cheese tasting, provided by Best Cellars and Cowgirl Creamery. The Cultura! event at the Renwick Gallery on Sunday, Nov. 9 is free and open to the public, but the tastings of wine and cheese do require a small fee. Might you post a correction so folks are not misguided?
