Virginia Restaurants Celebrate the Harvest

By Julyssa Lopez

Spotlighting locally sourced ingredients on restaurant menus is nothing new, but they’re the highlight of the Virginia hunt country’s Celebrate the Harvest week. Now through October 4, restaurants in Middleburg, The Plains, and Upperville will create specials that focus on homegrown ingredients.

Upperville’s Ayrshire Farm will provide the merguez sausage that the French Hound (101 N. Madison St., Middleburg; 540-687-3018) is serving with spicy aïoli as a $4 snack, and a more substantial lamb sausage will be made using meat from Purcellville’s Fields of Athenry. Fields of Athenry is also the subject of a “showcase” at the Red Fox Inn (2 E. Washington St., Middleburg; 540-687-6301), which features a bone-in pork-rib chop, braised beef brisket, and a crispy half chicken. At Annie’s (5 W. Washington St., Middleburg; 540-687-4754), the duck cassoulet and chicken and egg salads are made with eggs and fowl from Grandma Honey’s Pantry in The Plains.

As for drinks, Tarara Winery and Linden Vineyards will show off their locally made wines, and Richmond’s Cirrus Vodka will provide spirits.
