Drinks We Love: The Wimbledon at Tallula
By
Cynthia Allen
Forget everything that you’ve heard about Pop Rocks, that oh-so-delicious candy that’s explosive when mixed with soda (if you believe the urban legend). Lyon Park restaurant Tallula has created a cocktail that puts a new spin on the carbonated candy classic.
The Wimbledon ($10) is a delightful mix of Skyy vodka, Champagne, strawberry puree, and honey served in a martini glass rimmed with, you guessed it, Pop Rocks. Executive chef Nathan Anda says the traditional Wimbledon breakfast ingredients of strawberries and champagne inspired the cocktail's name.
The vibrant red color catches the eye first, but it’s the pop and fizzle in each sip that leaves a lasting impression. Despite the overload of sweet ingredients, this drink is a grand slam.
