TasteDC hosts an introduction to French wines focusing on the wines of Burgundy. Burgundy growers excel in making wines from only Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes on especially small plots of land. Miss last weekend’s Taste of Bethesda? This Saturday from 11 to 4, you can hit Taste of Georgetown. The food-and-wine festival features a wide range of neighborhood restaurants—including 1789, Mendocino Grille and Wine Bar, and Tackle Box—offering samples (tasting tickets cost $5) plus an Old World wine pavilion ($10 entry fee). A panel of judges, including the Food Network’s Marc Silverstein, will pick the event’s best appetizer, entrée, display, and dessert. Wine importer and distributor Terry Theise teams with Café Atlántico sommelier Jill Zimorski and chef Terri Cutrino for a Champagne brunch at the restaurant (405 Eighth St., NW). Guests will be able to sample five of Theise’s awarding-winning “grower Champagnes,” including Gaston Chiquet Blanc de Blancs d’Ay Brut and Chartogne Taillet Millesime Brut. The menu will be prepared in the restaurant’s “Latino dim sum” style, and will feature quail eggs with caviar, cigalas with brioche, and foie gras with pomegranate. Brunch begins at noon.
